Professor Mike Wilson is Pro Vice Chancellor for the Faculties of Science, Engineering, and Architecture & Design, and the Victoria University of Wellington. Professor Wilson obtained a 1st class degree in Natural Science from Cambridge University (1980), then obtained a PhD in Physics (1984) after carrying out research with the Radio Astronomy Group at the Cavendish Laboratory, specialising in computational astrophysical fluid dynamics. Mike then moved to the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Leeds, UK to continue his work in computational astrophysics as a research fellow of the Royal Commission of 1851. Mike was appointed as a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics and was subsequently promoted to Senior Lecturer, Reader and Professor of Applied Mathematics (1986) and was appointed as Head of the School of Mathematics at the University of Leeds (2001). In 2005, Michael was appointed as Dean for the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences at Leeds. He joined Victoria University Wellington as Pro Vice Chancellor for the Faculties of Science, Engineering, and Architecture & Design in 2013 and became a Malaghan Institute Trust board member in 2013.
