This morning, Malaghan Institute Director Prof Graham Le Gros gave an in-depth interview with Radio New Zealand's Kathryn Ryan on the immune system and why he believes it is the way of the future for treating diseases such as cancer.

The Malaghan Institute is about to undertake a clinical trial of a melanoma vaccine, in collaboration with The University of Auckland, Callaghan Innovation, Capital & Coast District Health Board and Cancer Trials New Zealand. The trial is due to start in August 2013.
Scientists at the Malaghan Institute are also developing more effective, immune-based therapies for the treatment of allergic diseases, arthritis and multiple sclerosis.
