Dr Georgia Carson

Māori Engagement Advisor

Dr Georgia Mae Rangikahiwa Carson (Ngāti Whakaue) is the Malaghan Institute's Tautotoro, the one who reaches out.

She liaises with Te Urungi Māori and assists the Malaghan Institute to collaborate with Māori more effectively, to ensure their perspectives and needs are integrated into culturally safe, responsive, and equitable research.

Previously, she was a postdoctoral research fellow in cancer metabolism at the Malaghan Institute. She received her PhD from Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, working under the supervision of Associate Professor Melanie McConnell and Professor Mike Berridge.

Alongside her work, Georgia volunteers advocating for science communication, fair science policy, and early career and Māori researchers.
