John Beattie was appointed to the Trust Board in 1991 and as an executive of Brierley Investments Limited played an integral role in helping resuscitate the Malaghan Institute following the stock market crash in 1987.
John remained a Trustee for 32 years, playing significant roles within the Board and as Director of Malcorp Biodiscoveries Limited, a subsidiary of the Malaghan Institute, and of Wellington Zhaotai Therapies Limited, a joint venture between the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research and Hunan Zhaotai Medical Group to advance CAR T and other cell therapies.
He was recognised posthumously as a Distinguished Trustee in 2023.
